The University of Chicago Charter School believes students deserve robust opportunities to explore their potential, inside and outside the classroom. Co-curricular activities—such as Debate Team at UCW, Oratory at CGW, Media Arts at NKO, and X-Block classes covering journalism to sound engineering and everything in between—encourage students to enrich their academic experience and develop as thinkers, learners, creators, and leaders.
Specifically, the current and diverse offerings in UChicago Charter's extended day and academic enrichment programs give students: 1) opportunities to strengthen their knowledge and skills in the core academic subjects of reading and mathematics, 2) options to develop their interests in leadership, the arts, sports, digital media, and science, 3) homework help, 4) tutoring; and 5) mentoring. At the secondary level, our students undertake “signature projects” and "senior thesis projects". These projects are long-term research studies done by students in the humanities, sciences, and social sciences. The students present their findings and recommendations to peers, parents and experts in the field.
